Um… All of them?
Just kidding! There are a few that aren’t really worth it like Haywire and Nanny McPhee (Ewan is in that one for all of ten-fifteen seconds). But to spare you a long list, I’ll keep it to five of my personal favourites (in no particular order):
Easily my favourite of the music films he’s made (Moulin Rouge! being the other), but that has everything to do with my disliking actual muscials and nothing to do with Ewan’s performance in either film. But I do so love him as Curt Wild and the music is fantastic.
It’s Michael Bay, so grain of salt with this one, but I’m a HUGE science fiction fan (and no, not putting Star Wars on this list, because meh) and Sean Bean is also in this and there are two Ewans at one point. Despite being an action movie disguised as science fiction (aren’t most SF films, though?), it does pose some interesting questions about society.
A love film. And probably the film that really made me start to appreciate independent films a lot more than big Hollywood productions. There’s also a slight sci-fi element - a disease that robs people of their sense - but it’s not at all heavy handed in its execution. I would certainly put this as one of my absolute favourite Ewan films. Despite a previous and deep-seated hatred for love films.
Straight up thriller and very tense and exciting. Christopher Eccleston (my Doctor!) is also in this, and it was - as far as I know - the break-through film for Ewan. Also one of my favourites that I never regret sitting down to watch.
This is not for everyone. It’s strange and takes quite a lot of attention to watch, and at least for me, it didn’t answer all my questions on the first viewing. Or the second. Or the third. In fact, every time I watch it, I see and discover something new and I well and truly love that about a film.
And, of course, the usual suspect:
Anyway, thank you for the ask, and hope I helped some. :-D
Thank you! I watched Big Fish and The island before, though I should really watch the second again. Thank you for the answer! I’ll be watching some interviews with him on youtube too, though I’ve been neglecting Tom Hiddleston’s for the past months.. lol
"I fight cynicism. It’s too easy. It’s really boring. It’s much harder to be positive and see the wonder of everything. Cynicism is a bunch of people who aren’t as talented as other people, knocking them because they make them feel even more untalented."
